Sustainability at the heart of what we do

At Iron & Pine we really do care about our environmental impact and we try where we can to operate in as sustainable a way as possible. At the heart of our business is the ethos of reusing and recycling shipping containers which have served their original purpose of moving cargo across the globe. Because the main building block of our products already exists and we are putting it to another use, our embedded carbon, compared to building from scratch, can be much lower.

We also ensure that our finished products are incredibly well insulated, meaning that they use as little energy to heat and cool as possible, and we use A rated appliances and LED lighting. We also offer “off-grid” packages including solar panels and composting toilets.

Where waste is created in our manufacturing process, we recycle as much as we possibly can and we use timber from sustainable sources. Where we can we use materials that are sourced locally and which can be recycled or reused. We also build our products to last with lifespans in excess of 60 years in most cases meaning that our products wont be going to landfill anytime soon.  Where we can, we like to use screw pile foundations, which means there is no concrete in the construction and that they can be unscrewed and removed should the building need to move without leaving anything on the site or in the ground.
