Client:Art At Eight
purpose: Art Studio
location:Isle of Skye
Art at Eight, an artist based on the Isle of Skye, initially envisioned a renovated stone building as their dream art studio. However, challenges arose in finding builders to undertake the refurbishment project. They then explored the possibility of a prefabricated timber cabin, but securing reliable contractors for on-site construction remained a concern.
This is where the concept of a modular art studio, specifically a converted shipping container, emerged as the ideal solution. Unlike traditional construction methods, a container conversion offered several key advantages. Off-site construction meant all the work – building, interior fit-out, and electrical installation – was completed in a controlled environment, eliminating delays due to weather or contractor availability. The converted container arrived ready for use, minimising the disruption and logistics associated with on-site construction. Additionally, our team worked closely with Art at Eight to create a studio tailored to their exact needs and specifications.
‘We looked at other suppliers for converting a shipping container into an art studio, the reason we chose Iron & Pine for our art studio was you could see from their previous conversions that they were finished to a very high standard. Having established contact with Iron & Pine we were impressed by their proactive support of our enquiry questions about the conversion process, and the fact that we were able to a have a fully bespoke conversion with advice freely given as required in the design stage. The whole project was very well managed, Art at Eight is based on the Isle of Skye, so we had video project calls and project updates with supporting images and videos’
