Fenton Hill Farm

Client:Fenton Hill Cottages

purpose: ACCOMMODATION location:Northumberland

Facing agricultural pressures, Philippa and Martin Rutherford expanded their accommodation portfolio with an Iron & Pine Classic Z unit, “The Collis.” This has generated vital income and offered guests an authentic rural experience, educating them on modern farming.

“The Collis” proved successful, providing financial stability and positive guest feedback. It fostered a connection to the land, ensuring the farm’s future and demonstrating the value of diversification in agriculture.

We chose to diversify our farm with our unit from iron and pine as it created an extra income source to support our family in an industry which is ever changing and increasingly under threat in the current climate. We also want to invite guests to our farm to show them that farming is an integral part of this country and that we want to still be farming and nurturing the land and our animals in generations to come. Farming alone is not enough any more, to remain sustainable diversification is an integral part of farming. We’ve had such great feedback from guests who have stayed in our unit ‘the Collis’ about how peaceful it is and how much they enjoy spending time in the fresh air and seeing wildlife. This is what we need to show guests about farming, not what they see on the television”
