Iron & Pine Secures Falkirk Wheel Container Office Project

We’re proud to share some exciting news from the Iron & Pine team, we’ve secured a contract with Scottish Canals to deliver a new container office at one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks, the Falkirk Wheel.

For us, this is more than just a project. It’s a milestone that reflects how far we’ve come as a small but ambitious company rooted in South West Scotland and a chance to showcase what Galloway-built innovation can achieve on a national stage.

A Purpose-Built Space at a World-Class Destination

The Falkirk Wheel attracts around 500,000 visitors each year and we’ve been tasked with designing and building a modern modular office to support Scottish Canals’ holiday boat hire operations.

The building will create a welcoming and practical space for both staff and visitors. It will include a reception area along with secure storage, all carefully designed to support smooth day-to-day operations right beside the canal and moorings.

Constructed from two 40ft high cube containers, the unit will form a high-quality container office and will be delivered as a fully operational, “plug and play” building, ready for immediate connection on site.

Designed with Sustainability in Mind

Sustainability is at the core of everything we do and this project is no exception.

The building will incorporate:

Solar panels
Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR)
An air source heat pump
High-performance insulation

Together, these features will ensure the space is energy efficient, comfortable year-round and built with a reduced environmental impact.

A Proud Moment for Our Team

Our co-founder Alistair Fell summed it up best:

“Securing this contract with Scottish Canals is a hugely proud moment for us. As a small business based in Dalbeattie, it’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase what we do on such a high-profile stage. The Falkirk Wheel is one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks, and to deliver a sustainable, high-quality modular building and container office at such a recognised destination really shows how far our team—and our Galloway-made product—have come. We’re passionate about combining great design with low-impact construction, and this project is a perfect example of that in action.”

Enhancing the Visitor Experience

This new development will also improve how visitors experience Scotland’s waterways. By relocating the boat hire service to a purpose-built space right beside the canal, customers will benefit from greater convenience, while operations become more efficient for the Scottish Canals team.

This project reflects exactly what Iron & Pine is about: thoughtful design, sustainable construction, and delivering practical, high-quality modular and container office buildings that meet real-world needs.

We’re excited to get started and look forward to sharing progress as the build develops.
